You likely have many questions before sending your child on a course. We will try to answer as many as possible below.
Applications and payments can be made online at rnf.ie. You only need to pay the required deposit and then pay the balance (at least) four weeks prior to the course. Please keep your log-in details to your account as you will need to log in to make the second payment. You can of course pay the balance owed at ANY time before the deadline
Course descriptions are given throughout this website, but if still in doubt email [email protected]
A student can nominate one house companion when registering for a course.
Students stay with host families in the area. All host families are passed by The Department of the Gaeltacht and all adults in houses have full Garda Clearance. Breakfast, tea and supper are provided in guest houses.Students recieve a packed lunch during the day. Laundry is done once per week. All bed clothes are provided.
We simply ask that students make their best effort and once they do, they will make progress. Applicants are reminded that they must be currently studying Irish at school to be eligible to attend their chosen course.
If students attended Coláiste Bhríde before or heard of a house name you can put it down, otherwise leave it blank. We do our best regarding house choice but cannot guarantee it.
The college runs supervised buses running from as far south as Dublin but not from County Donegal itself. You would receive travel information approximately two weeks prior to course. Travel is extra.
The amount of pocket money you give to your child is at your own discretion but a good rule of thumb would be roughly €5 to €6 per day. The children will be taken on a tour and they may wish to shop while on it. All pocket money should be in euro. There is no bank nearby and cash should be left in the care of the bean an tí, no cash should be left in the bedrooms.
In addition, a College Hoodie is also on sale @ https://www.hoody.ie/2024 (Link for 2025 yet to come)
Students should take towels, toiletries, a light rain coat, swimwear and sun lotion. During the course the college runs theme ceilis and details of these events will be sent out with a pre-course email to enable students to bring costumes.
Students are allowed to have mobile phones at their lodging house for the purpose of contacting home only. They will be allowed to use them from 18.30 – 19:00 and at all other times phones will be kept in the lodging house by the bean an tí. Please attach a label with your child’s name on it to the back of their phone. Students who require the use of a phone for medical reasons (diabetes etc.) must inform Course Ardmháistir – +353749548283 [email protected] – stating student’s name and Course Title (A, B1, B2, C, D, E)
Students may go kayaking on Loch Bhríde behind the college, this is an optional extra and costs €12. Students are also taken on a supervised visit to the beach. They are allowed to swim in a supervised rope enclosure and play beach games also.
The easiest way is to visit https://www.rnf.ie and apply through the website.
